River Bluffs Paint Out, a three-day plein air painting event, is set for Friday, June 2, in Canton, Mo., Saturday, June 3, in Quincy, Ill., and Sunday June 4, in Hannibal.
Artists will work outdoors, capturing impressions of their surroundings — landscape and architectural features of each city.
The event will take place rain or shine. Each day a professional artist will judge the submitted work and awards will be presented. Daily cash awards will be $500 for first place, $250 for second place and $150 for third place. A reception will be held each day for participating artists, and a separate reception and exhibit of the day’s works will be open to the public.
Rules for the inaugural River Bluffs Paint Out allow acceptance of up to 30 artists daily. Each day, 7 to 9 a.m., before starting work, artists must bring canvases and/or papers to a designated check-in location to receive the day’s stamp, which is required for the work to be entered into the day’s competition.
Check-in locations, which will remain open throughout the day, will include water, restrooms and tables for artwork preparation. Deadline for entering the day’s contest will be 4 p.m. Judging will begin at 5 p.m. and at 5:45 p.m. private selections by purchase award patrons will take place. The public exhibit and reception open at 6:30 p.m.; award announcements will be at 7 p.m. Sales to the public during the exhibit and reception will be encouraged; each artist will conduct individual sales.
On-site registration will be $30.
Check-in locations are 4th Street Warehouse at 112 N. 4th St., Canton; Washington Theater, 427 Hampshire, Quincy; and Hannibal Arts Council, 105 S. Main, Hannibal. Information is available at showmecanton.com. The event is sponsored by Hannibal Arts Council, Illinois Arts Council, Missouri Arts Council, Canton Mo Tourism Commission, Canton Main Street Association and Culver-Stockton College.
