Programs that encourage folks to get out and paint have popped up across the nation.
Events with names like Corks & Canvas, Monet & Merlot and Paint the Town are a few examples. Hannibal is no exception; there are several programs in the community, including Lush n’ Brush, at 108 N. Main St. and owned by Amanda Jamison, and You*nique, 118 N. Third St., owned by Beth Hinton.
The Hannibal Arts Council also offers such programs. Two Arty Party programs are held each month at the 105 S. Main St. facility in Downtown Hannibal.
Arty Parties are fun and creative experiences for people who don’t feel they have much creative ability, those who dabble in art and those who call themselves artists — in other words, basically anyone.
“No prior painting experience is required. Courage is,” said Hannibal Arts Council Executive Director Michael Gaines. “Programs are designed for those simply looking to have a good time with good company while creating art.”
HAC Arty Party programs are $35 for the general public and $25 for HAC members. Through a partnership with Hannibal Regional Healthcare System, its employees may attend select Arty Party programs at the member rate. The parties are open to those 18 and older, and space is limited to 32. All art supplies including canvas, paint and brushes as well as plates, cups and napkins for snacks brought in by participants are provided. As with most HAC programs, registration is required by contacting HAC at 573-221-6545 or email@example.com.
Upcoming Arty Party programs at HAC include the following:
• Wednesday, May 3: 6 p.m., sterling silver and crystal earrings by AVA Goldworks. Cost is same $35/$25, but with the ability to make a second pair at $20/$15.
• Wednesday, May 24: 6 p.m., hand-dyed silk scarf with Cyndi Taylor
